In WA, 41 per cent of women give birth in private hospitals.

This is nearly double the number in states such as New South Wales and well above the national average of 29.8 per cent.

WA’s high rate of private health insurance meant more women gave birth in private hospitals, he said. “More than half of all West Australians have private health insurance, well above the national average, and many of our private hospitals offer excellent care,” Dr Hames said.
